Work-study Programs provide students with on-campus part-time job opportunities. These jobs may or may not be related to your college major. Your award letter will list an expect amount of money you will earn through work-study employment. That amount should be used to pay for school tuition. However, students can use the money for personal needs or school materials. If you do not use work study earnings to pay off school tuition, you will need to pay that portion of tuition through another means.
The rate of pay is at least minimum wage. The hope is that employers are more understanding when school related responsibilities prevent the student from being able to work. Contact your college's financial aid office for more information about the jobs they have available for you to choose from.
